5 Ways to Stay Creative During the Work Week

Wake up. Commute. Go to work. Commute again. Eat dinner. Watch TV. Go to bed.

Sound familiar?

Ever wish that you could make time more time for your own creative pursuits during the workweek? By making small changes in your weekly routine, you can easily find time to do more of what you want.

Here are 5 ways to stay creative during the workweek.

Audiobooks

Whether you drive or take public transportation, audiobooks are a great way to get your “reading” in while multitasking.  You can even start a book club in your office or among friends!

Morning Pages

Up for a challenge? How about writing three pages of stream of consciousness writing, completed by hand, first thing each morning? Morning pages are “associated with more creative thinking.” Check out the details over here.

Carry a notebook

I carry small notebooks with me almost wherever I go. If I get an idea for a blog post or a program, I make note of it right away. This way I capture my thought and go back and develop the idea when I have some more time.

Museums

Why not spend one weekday evening a month checking out local art museums? Lots of museums have special discounts for weekdays plus you’ll enjoy smaller lines and crowds than you would on the weekend.

Join a group

Finding a group of people who share your interests is not only fun and a great way to make new friends, it will help you create accountability for making time to do what you love.

Some people feel like they just don’t have the time or energy to do one more thing but I’ve found, when people make time to pursue their interests, they actually have more energy and better time management than they did before.

Which strategy will you use this week? Or do you have one that I didn’t mention here? Let me know in the comments below.
