3 Things Your Job Search Needs to Succeed
I’ve been watching people change careers, get promoted and land new jobs for over 5 years. Just as I’ve taught my clients how to create a strategic resume and prepare for an interview, I’ve learned so much from watching ambitious, busy people prioritize their own goals and take the next steps in their careers.
Strategy
When I say strategy, I mean a lot of things but primarily, I’m referring to tools, tactics, and strategies that can help you elevate your presentation and effectively communicate your value.
We work across industries so we understand the culture and norms vary by industry and function and help people build confidence in their contributions and put their best foot forward.
Everyone knows what they are supposed to do to land a job…but what you need to do as you develop over your career is learn how to assess your learning and goals, re-evaluate any assumptions you’ve made and navigate different opportunities.
That’s a whole different ball game than following a resume template – and it happens to be what we love helping our clients do.
Structure
Currently between jobs with a lot of time on your hands? Working long hours on top of a treacherous commute? Well it turns out what pretty much all job seekers have in common is breaking the process down into actionable steps, prioritizing your own goals, and actually getting stuff done is hard for…pretty much everyone.
In our Work Wonders & Co. community portal, we have a step-by-step road map for your job search complete with exercises and templates because it helps give you a structure and process to follow and allows you to take advantage of even small chunks of time. We’ve even built co-working and accountability into the program because getting stuff done is hard.
There’s no getting around it – your job search is going to require time and commitment so providing structure for our clients helps them manage their expectations and focus their efforts – with results to show for it!
Support
Even though I’m super proud of the materials and resources we provide our clients, hardly anyone thanks me for my worksheets. When our time together wraps up and they’ve landed that job, what I hear time and time again is “Thank you for the encouragement.”
Pretty much everyone experiences setbacks and disappointments and having someone who can help put things in perspective and pick up where you left off, can be a huge advantage. So many people give up too soon.
For you this might be a coach, it could be a friend or colleague, or mentor. We see folks in our Work Wonders & Co. community offering this kind of support for each other all the time. If you’re looking for it, consider joining us!
I’d love to hear from you job seekers out there – do you have all three of these components for your job search? If not, what are you missing? Send me a DM and let me know!
If you’re looking for templates, make sure you check out either WW&Co or our Job Search Ready Bundle. We even include language on how to reach out and follow up in these difficult times.
